National Level Workshop on " Advanced Foundation Engineering 2011".

Geotechnical Engineers play a crutial role in the design of foundations for structures constructed offshore and onshore. Testing of soil and proper evaluation of reprensentative soil samples and determination of soils are essential requirements. Many foundations fail to satisfy the Intended functions mainly due to the use of Improper soil design parameters or adopting wrong design philosophy. With sharp increase in the construction of important structures, such as tall buildings, bridges, Dams, Pavements, Underground utilities etc and scarcity of good foundation soils and advent of new construction materials, make the role of geotechnical engineers very crucial in the design decision process.

Broad Objective

Aim of the National Workshop is to enhance the participants with the concepts of foundation design and construction, for variety of structures, resting on soil media. The basics that are essential to understand in process of providing an acceptable foundation design such as preparation of geological model for site estimation of soil design parameters, different failure criteria etc will be discussed at length. Upon successful completion of the workshop , knowledge acquired will boost the confidence of building civil engineers.
