Plastics and Polymer Engineering Department of MIT, Aurangabad has organized its 1st National conference on “Recent Advances in Polymers” with the support of Department of Science & Technology, and various private organizations.
Polymer, this Greek origin word has done miracle. Polymers are studied in the fields of polymer physics, polymer chemistry and polymer science. This is such a material which is tailor made as per the requirement of human community.
We cannot avoid this material as we, the living bodies are made of polymers only. Muscle, collagen (in bone), keratin (in hair, nails and beaks) and albumin are all copolymers of very similar amino acids but have quite different physical properties. In deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), the genetic template, the sequence of monomers is precise and variations are the cause of genetic mutations.
Due to their commercial importance, most research in polymer chemistry is concerned with synthetic organic polymers, such as plastics or fibers. Many polymer chemists, however, work on problems related to medicine, chemical engineering, biology and biochemistry, or materials science.
This very importance of this material has led us to arrange this conference with a motto of providing a knowledge sharing platform.
The conference was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of the Divisional Commissioner, Aurangabad and Acting Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University Mr. Bhaskar Munde as Chief Guest, in presence of Dr. Ajit Thete, Joint Director, DTE, Regional Office, Aurangabad and Mr. Arvind Mehta, Ex-President, Plastindia Foundation, Mumbai on 17th August, 2010.
Dr. H. P. Natu (Head, R&D, Gharda Chemicals Ltd.) delivered a key note address on High Performance Polymers with Special Emphasis on Poly Aryl Ether Ketone on 17th August, 2010 and on 18th August, 2010 key note speaker Mr. S. V. Raju (VP, Reliance Industries Ltd) delivered a presentation on Recent Scenario of Plastics Industry in perspective of Commodity Plastics. Following Dr. Natu’s lecture, there were lectures of Mr. Amit Joshi (SHIMADZU Analytical I Ltd) and Mr. Sunil Shah (VP, Rajoo Engineers). Mr. Joshi spoke on Thermal Analysis, like DSC, TGA, DTA etc. and Mr. Shah talked on Recent Advances in Multilayer and Sheet Line Extrusion.
There were speakers from Crompton Greaves Global R&D Centre and Arkema Inc. Dr. Rajendra Jaiswal from Crompton Greaves Global R&D Centre delivered lecture on Polymers in Electronic Application and Mr. Mandar Amrute (Alumni 2005, Arkema Inc.) discussed on PVDF Resin in Membrane Application.
90 abstracts were received from all over India from which 34 have been shortlisted.
